About Moths

The two main types of moths that pose a nuisance in the London areas are the Clothes or carpet moth and the pantry moth. The cloths moths are a well known pest for causing damage to wool materials but the Moths pupae will eat a wide range of materials and tend to have a taste for the finer things in life or your wardrobe! The Moths will feast on silks, fur, feathers or most natural fabrics. The pantry moth feed on stored products and grain generally in the kitchen. Both species can be difficult to exterminate without professional help

A FEW FACTS ABOUT MOTHS

Moths generally come out at night but can be seen in the day in some cases, the way to tell if you’ve got a Moth problem are:

The cloths moths are a golden colour and small in size (about 1 cm) and can be found in the corners of rooms or mainly dark areas like wardrobes. The adult moth doesn’t cause any damage itself but will lay eggs in areas for the pupae to feast on. You may see them scuttling across the bottom of your wardrobe or floors but also fly.

The pantry moth you will most likely see flying out of a kitchen cupboard, the adult is about 1 cm in length and more grey with hits of either black or red on their wings. You may notice the pupae on the walls of ceiling of the kitchen and look similar to a small grain of rice.
